About the product
JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is a viscous gel filler that effectively eliminates wrinkles surrounding the mouth and nose instantaneously. It functions by replenishing the hyaluronic acid diminished with age, thereby augmenting volume to 'plump' and alleviate facial wrinkles and folds. Intended for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and creases, including nasolabial folds. The product includes lidocaine, rendering the treatment painless and comfortable for the patient.
Protocol
Juvéderm® ULTRA PLUS XC is an injectable filler utilized for the correction of mid and/or deep skin depressions through mid and/or deep dermal injection, in addition to lip definition and enhancement.
Lidocaine is administered to alleviate the patient's pain during treatment.
Indications
Juvéderm® ULTRA PLUS XC is an injectable filler designed to address mid- and deep-level skin depressions through injection into the mid and deep dermis. It may also be utilized for the augmentation and delineation of the lips. Lidocaine is administered to alleviate the patient's pain during treatment. This product is indicated for treatment in adults aged 18 and older.
Properties
This Juvéderm® formulation is a sterile, pyrogen-free physiological solution of cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) that is not animal-derived.
The gel comes in a graduated, prefilled disposable syringe. Each box contains two 1mL syringes, four single-use 27G1/2" sterile needles for injecting Juvéderm®, an instruction leaflet, and a set of labels to ensure traceability.
How to use
Injection Technique:
- Because of its density, this Juvederm® formulation requires a deep dermal or subdermal injection.
- A 25G or 27G needle is commonly used for precise placement.
- Cannulas may be a safer option for certain areas, such as the cheeks and chin, to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding.
The injection technique will vary based on the desired outcome:
- Linear threading to fill deep wrinkles.
- Deep layer bolus injections for volumization.
- Layering technique for combined wrinkle filling and volume enhancement
Important considerations:
- Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC is intended for use by licensed practitioners who have received advanced dermal filler injection training.
- A thorough understanding of facial anatomy is required to ensure proper placement and avoid complications such as vascular occlusion.
- To reduce infection risks, proper aseptic technique is required.
- Although lidocaine can help with pain management, some patients may require additional local anesthesia.
- Massage the injection site gently to ensure even product distribution.
- Inform patients about possible side effects such as bruising, swelling, and tenderness, which may last longer due to the deeper injection.
Additional Tips:
- To reduce bruising, use blunt cannulas on locations with a high concentration of blood vessels, such as the cheeks.
- Use aspiration during injection to reduce vascular blockage.
- Begin with a small amount of filler and touch-ups as needed after two weeks.
- Patients should be advised to avoid extensive manipulation of the injected area for several days.
Remember:
- This Juvederm® product is not intended for use under the eyes or for lip augmentation in patients who have thin lips.
- For complete prescribing information, safety precautions, and potential contraindications, please see Allergan's product label.
Contraindications:
- Avoid injecting this solution in the eyelids, crow's feet, or glabellar region. The application in the under-eye area should only be performed by health care professionals who have received specific training in this technique and have a thorough understanding of the physiology of this area.
- Do not inject into blood vessels (intravascular). Intravascular injection may cause embolism, vessel occlusion, ischaemia, or infarction.
- Don't overcorrect.
