Protocol

This formulation is an injectable implant utilized for the augmentation of medium-sized skin depressions through mid-dermis injection, as well as for lip definition and enhancement.

Lidocaine is incorporated into these dermal fillers to alleviate the patient's discomfort during the procedure.

Indications

This formulation is an injectable implant designed to address medium-sized skin depressions through mid-dermis injection. Juvéderm® dermal fillers may also be utilized for lip definition and enhancement. Lidocaine is administered to alleviate the patient's pain during treatment. This dermal filler is intended for individuals aged 18 and older.

Properties

This formulation is a sterile, pyrogen-free physiological solution of cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) derived from non-animal sources.

The hyaluronic acid-based gel is contained in a graduated, prefilled, disposable syringe. Each box comprises two 1mL syringes, four single-use 30G 1/2” sterile needles designated exclusively for the injection of this solution, an instructional leaflet, and a collection of labels to facilitate traceability.

How to use

Juvederm® XC Products:

Ultra-XC (finest consistency): Utilized for the treatment of fine lines, lip augmentation (particularly for subtle enhancement), and correction of under-eye tear troughs.

Ultra Plus XC (moderately thick): Effectively fills moderate wrinkles and folds (nasolabial folds, marionette lines), offers limited cheek augmentation, and is suitable for lip enhancement.

Voluma XC (most substantial consistency): Formulated explicitly for considerable cheek volumization and chin enhancement.

Administration Method:

The injection method will differ based on the particular product and intended result. Here is a comprehensive guide:

Needle Selection: 27G or 30G needles are frequently utilized for accurate placement and minimal tissue trauma.

Blunt-tip needles are favoured to minimize tissue disruption.

Depth of Injection:

Ultra-XC: Injections ranging from superficial to mid-dermal layers.

Ultra Plus XC: Injections for mid to deep dermal layers.

Voluma XC: Injections administered in the deep dermis or subdermal layer.

Cannulation: Cannulas may provide a safer alternative for certain vascular regions (such as the cheeks and chin) to reduce the risks of bruising and bleeding. Juvederm® is typically not advised for lip injections due to the potential risk of overfilling.

Particular Methods:

Linear threading for the purpose of wrinkle augmentation.

Bolus injections for volumetric enhancement.

Serial puncture technique for accurate distribution, specifically for lip augmentation using this formulation.

Layering technique for simultaneous wrinkle filling and volume enhancement in this formulation.

Significant Factors:

Juvederm® products are intended for licensed practitioners proficient in dermal filler injections.

A profound comprehension of facial anatomy is essential for secure placement and the prevention of complications.

Aseptic technique is crucial for reducing infection risks.

Lidocaine aids in pain management; however, supplementary local anesthesia may be required for certain patients.

A gentle massage post-injection facilitates uniform product distribution and diminishes the likelihood of lumps.

Inform patients about possible side effects such as bruising, swelling, and tenderness, which may differ based on the injection depth and location.

Selecting the Appropriate Dermal Filler Product:

Evaluate the intensity of wrinkles or the preferred augmentation of volume.

Ultra for the refinement of fine lines and subtle enhancement of lips.
Ultra Plus for moderate wrinkles, cheek augmentation, and lip augmentation.

Voluma for substantial cheek enhancement and chin augmentation.

Recall:

Consult Allergan’s product documentation for comprehensive prescribing information, safety guidelines, and possible contraindications for each dermal filler.

Not all dermal filler products from this brand are appropriate for every facial region.

Contraindications:

Do not administer injections in the eyelids. Application in the under-eye region should be conducted exclusively by healthcare professionals specifically trained in this technique and possessing a thorough understanding of the physiology of this area.

Refrain from excessive correction.

Contraindications include: patients with untreated epilepsy; patients predisposed to hypertrophic scarring; patients with documented hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid and/or gram-positive bacterial proteins, as hyaluronic acid is derived from Streptococcus species; patients with known hypersensitivity to lidocaine or amide-type local anesthetics; patients with porphyria; pregnant or breastfeeding women; children.

Should not be utilized in regions exhibiting cutaneous inflammatory and/or infectious conditions (acne, herpes, etc.).

Should not be utilized concurrently with laser therapy, extensive chemical exfoliations, or dermabrasion. In cases of surface peels, it is advisable to refrain from injecting the product if a substantial inflammatory reaction occurs.
